The 20/20/60 Rule ….. 20% of the people coming into your store are going to buy because that’s what they are coming in to do. 20% are not going to buy regardless of what you say or do. 60% will either buy or not buy depending on what you say and do. Even though the percentages vary a little bit from store to store and industry to industry the general guideline is pretty accurate and holds true. The reason I have salespeople write 25 words or phrases that can be used to describe a diamond romantically or passionately is because it is these words that build emotional value. Remember, 60% of the people coming into your store are going to buy or not buy depending on what you say, how you say it, and what you do. Features, used alone, are intrinsic to the object and always lead people’s thoughts to price. Empower the features of any item you show by also using words that showcase the benefits and speak to the emotions; the “it factor” that motivates people to want to buy now and from you.
